From garbage to gold
A reportage by Anne Gabriel-Jürgens.
In the Kezo waste incineration plant in Hinwil, around 60 kilos of gold are extracted from waste every year. So-called urban mining makes sense from an ecological and economic point of view. After the combustion process, the metals are separated from the rest by magnets, sorted and further processed. The different metals are then sold back to the respective branches of industry.
